No, ethylphenidate is not a cathinone , and in my experience (but I haven't tried the more stimulating cathinones like MDPV ) cathinones have an empathogenic effect that EPD does not. I would even say that for 3-MMC , what is interesting is that the effect is almost only empathogenic , compared for example to MDMA , which also has a stimulating side.

However, cathinones and ethylphenidate are part of the same family of phenylethylamines , to which also amphetamines , 5-APB , 2C-x family, MDAI , camfetamine , 4-FA .... Big family!
